Software Enhances Mainframe Migration Solutions with NeoBatch™
– JCL Execution with Windows Server System Enhancability
NeoBatch combines the ability to execute mainframe JCL batch jobs on Microsoft Windows Servers with the ability to enhance them into the future by taking advantage of Microsoft Windows scripting and .NET Framework technologies. Sunnyvale, CA, September 1, 2005 – Fujitsu Software today announced the early availability of NeoBatch, a solution for bringing mainframe JCL batch jobs to Microsoft’s .NET Framework with an eye to the future. NeoBatch integrates with NeoSort™, also announced today, to provide exceptionally fast sorting capability – an important consideration in most batch jobs. For companies concerned with the expense and agility of their mainframe applications, NeoBatch, with the companion products NeoSort, NeoKicks™ and NetCOBOL for .NET, provides a clear way forward. Now customers have a suite of migration products that will bring these legacy applications to the highly productive, fast moving, .NET environment. NeoBatch provides compatibility in executing mainframe JCL and using familiar terminology in its interface, while modernizing the job execution environment with its Job Manager and providing future extensibility through Microsoft’s JScript. With NeoBatch companies are freed from making decisions about whether to migrate their batch processes to a new technology or remain on the older JCL. NeoBatch allows users to run the processes as JCL or as JScript, transparently, so customers can continue to do what they have always done, or they can migrate to newer technology. Commenting on the release, Ron Langer, VP of Global COBOL Sales, Fujitsu Software Corporation, said, “Our customers and partners indicated that there were two features of our NeoKicks product that they would really like to see in our batch migration offerings. These were the ability to migrate the applications to Microsoft’s .NET Framework and including a transformation element in the migration process so that the applications could take full advantage of the new environment. NeoBatch is our answer – with an added bonus – it integrates with NeoSort which is a special version of Ordinal Technologies’s Nsort™ that emulates mainframe sort utilities and is one of the fastest sort programs available.” "Companies are migrating away from the OS/390 and z/OS platforms to the Windows Server Platform because of the advantages in cost, flexibility and supportability," said Spyros Sakellariadis, Director of the Mainframe Migration Alliance, Microsoft Corporation. "Fujitsu's NeoBatch migration toolkit provides a great way for mainframe customers with investments in JCL to take advantage of the benefits of the Windows Server System – both as target platform and in enhancing the application moving forward.” “Having worked with mainframe JCL for many years, experiencing both its strengths and limitations, I’ve been excited to be part of the NeoBatch project, helping to give organizations the means to migrate the tremendous value built into their batch jobs to a modern environment,” said Raul Menendez, co-author of Murach’s OS/390 and z/OS JCL and member of the NeoBatch development team. “Now they have the means to take advantage of the .NET Framework to extend their applications beyond the limitations of the mainframe.” NeoBatch early users program will start in early September.
