Fujitsu Software Sees Bright Future for Enterprise
Applications
Microsoft’s direction confirms Fujitsu Software’s Agile IT message for rejuvenating enterprise COBOL applications Microsoft TechEd 2004, May 24 – Fujitsu Software announced its support of Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System. The 2005 enhancements are fully in line with the needs of Fujitsu Software’s customers who are migrating their mainframe COBOL applications to the Microsoft .NET Framework. Luis Martinez Atienza, President of Adamed, S.L., a Spanish system integrator in the process of migrating over 7 million lines of mainframe code to the .NET Framework, said, “We are excited to hear of the new features in Visual Studio 2005 Team System, particularly the enterprise level source code control which will enhance our ability to manage the large quantities of source code we typically work with. We also expect to take a close look at the communication of modeling features, as anything that shortens the cycle from concept to code, while enhancing the reliability of the process, will be good news in the world of enterprise applications.” “Our message is that organizations can achieve the Agile IT infrastructure they desire by migrating their COBOL applications to Microsoft Visual Studio,” commented Ron Langer, Director of Languages at Fujitsu Software Corporation. “The migration significantly reduces the cost of maintaining these applications while increasing developer productivity. Microsoft’s lifecycle platform announcements make the message stronger – if you want your developers producing the highest quality code, matching today’s complex requirements, on time and within budget, you need to equip them with this set of tools.” “NetCOBOL for.NET has demonstrated tight integration with Visual Studio, based on a long history of working collaboratively to deliver high-quality customer solutions,” said Prashant Sridharan, senior product manger of the .NET Developer Product Management Group at Microsoft Corp. “We look forward to building on this relationship to improve productivity and reduce costs through tighter integration, better communication and sharing of information between Fujitsu and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team System.” Basim Kadhim, Chief Architect for Languages, Fujitsu Software Corporation, explains, “Fujitsu’s strategy for delivering Agile IT starts by putting Web browser interfaces on migrated CICS applications using the NetKicks product. These applications consist of millions of lines of code, often supported by large teams of developers, so our customers are always looking for better ways to manage the development lifecycle. We are excited to be working with Microsoft to deliver integrated solutions that will enable these teams beyond anything they have experienced to date.” New Visual Studio 2005 Team System features such as code coverage, unit testing, load testing and team collaboration demonstrate further tuning of the development environment to the needs of the enterprise. Today’s announcements confirm that forward-looking, competitive IT organizations need to position themselves, and their applications, in the Microsoft .NET Framework if they want to maximize their long-term value.
